Lord Hutton's review of public sector pensions recommended increasing individuals' pension contributions, raising the retirement age, and moving from final salary to career average entitlement.
ALACE gave detailed evidence to the Hutton pensions commission, pointing out that our members already pay significantly higher pension contributions than other public sector employees - such as civil servants, and that, unlike the others, our pension scheme is fully funded.
ALACE urges the government:
- to protect employees accrued benefits and entitlements
- not to make changes that drive people out of the pension scheme and undermine its sustainability
- to promote greater fairness between contribution rates and benefits across all public sector pension schemes.
